"Not just yet!" - that's what the Chamber of Commerce is saying about government's hurry-come-up plan to liquidate the DFC. According to a statement issued this afternoon, "the Chamber is not satisfied that (the DFC) should be closed down without a thorough review..." It goes on: "the chamber urges government to ensure that an audit commences prior to liquidation." The Chamber would want the audit to focus on the investment, loans and securitization portfolios where, we are advised, more than a few skeletons of private largesse at public expense are buried. The Chamber recommends that the audit would be submitted to the National Assembly for further deliberation and action. The Chamber also warns that the DFC's demise would create a void in financing for developing industries.
