He was a high-ranking government minister, and a ranking PUP insider, but now Eamon Courtenay is Michael Ashcroft's number two man. In a move that took many by surprise, the bank today made it official: Eamon Courtenay has been appointed the Belize Bank's Deputy Chairman. He becomes the number 2 in charge under the new Chairman, who is current President Phil Johnson.
It's a sharp change for Courtenay who, though he had been fired from the Musa Cabinet in late December and later rejected a re-posting in that Cabinet, still remained involved in the PUP government as a negotiator and in the party as the recently confirmed Co-Deputy Campaign Manager, a once prestigious post now diluted by a power-sharing arrangement. But Courtenay looks as if he's leaving all that behind to go work for Ashcroft's bank where he will be involved in the development of the bank as a regional player. That's just one major acquisition for the Belize Bank. It also has brought on board Martin Marshalleck, the former Managing Director of the alliance bank. Marshalleck will be an Executive Director of the Bank, joining 6 other directors. Former Chairman, Sir Edney Cain will now serve as a Non-executive Director of the Bank.
