Over the past 17 years a volunteer U.S. medical group called Omni-Med has been coming to Belize helping the Belizean medical profession through training. They are here again and over the next few days they will be offering training in pre and post natal care for mothers. We caught up with two of the doctors and they explain the importance of today's training.

"I'll be talking about obstetrics labor room emergencies and about abnormal uterine bleeding which is very common worldwide. Because I deal with a lot of high risk OB I recently heard about a situation where an outlying nurse did not recognize a certain type of medical emergency. It is a rare kind so I am going to talk about that just to bring people another awareness that these things can happen and what to do if it happens. So hopefully it will translate into less people will have significant morbidity or mortality in labor."

Similar training will be held throughout the country at various health centers.
