On October third, government has committed itself to come up with US$14.9 million as a down payment to buy back Cascal's 82% holding in the water company, BWSL. Well there are no fairy godmothers, and no millions falling form the sky...so where will government get all that money. Today, minister of Foreign Affairs Godfrey Smith alluded that a friendly nation will held with the bailout.
Godfrey Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Information
"What I will say is this, through diplomatic efforts with friendly governments we hope to find the appropriate mechanism, we're very positive that we will, to be able to come through on the transaction and that is all I will say on that. We're very positive that we'll be able to do it working with friendly governments."
Smith's leading pronouncement and other sources indicate that the government of Taiwan has agreed to come up with the US$14.9 million. The possible terms of that bailout package are still unclear.
