We all know that you can't escape paying taxes but now you can avoid the long lines at the Sales Tax Office. As of this week businesses are able to pay their sales tax at all Atlantic Bank branches or online at the bank's website. This is the result of a successful three month pilot project. The Sales Tax Department says it will increase convenience and efficiency. And if you are wondering about reliability and acountability, Supervisor Cynthia Castillo says that is covered too.

Cynthia Castillo,
"The convenience will come about in that there is an option and you can now go to the Atlantic Bank, visit any counter, go the teller, and pay your tax there. There is also another option of paying it online at www.atlabank.com. It is a part of the tax reform initiative and we are trying to alleviate congestion at the office and make it a convenience for the taxpayer to make payments for sales tax. We have worked out a solution with Atlantic Bank where all payments made at the bank are directly imported into our system here at Sales Tax."

Keith Swift,
So there'll be no delay.

Cynthia Castillo,
"No delay at all."

Keith Swift,
What receipt will the customer get?

Cynthia Castillo,
"They will get a receipt from the Atlantic Bank."

Keith Swift,
So for people who are skeptical you would tell them…

Cynthia Castillo,
"Every payment they make will at the end of the day will be transferred into the account at the Department of Sales Tax."

Castillo notes that if you are late in paying your tax, you will still incur the penalty fee. The link is http://www.atlabank.com.
