Tonight, 3000 bags of rice confiscated from a Marketing Board warehouse in the Orange Walk District remains in the custody of the Customs Department. Those three hundred 30 pounds bags weighing a total of 90,000 pound and valued at $62,000 were taken by Customs from the warehouse in Orange Walk Town last night. This video of that confiscation was taken by our affiliates at the Northern Cable Network. And while they took hours to do all that last night, today Comptroller of Customs Gregory Gibson told us that his department is conducting an investigation, but preliminary indications are that what they confiscated was genuine Marketing Board rice legitimately produced in Belize. While empty Mexican sacks were found in the warehouse, there were only about 5 of them and according to the Marketing Board, that's what they bought from Customs. Gibson says that his department was not aware that the Marketing Board was using that as a warehouse and they moved on it because of its unusual location on the Yo Creek Road.
