Two out of the four men charged for a brutal murder outside a Belmopan nightclub are free men tonight. Late this evening a jury acquitted Dennis Hyde and his cousin Delvin Galvez of murder and manslaughter and convicted brothers Russell and Clifford Hyde of manslaughter. The four were charged for the June 2004 murder of Allison Castillo outside Deja Vu nightclub in Belmopan. After a three week trial with three defense attorneys and over 20 witnesses, Dennis Hyde and Delvin Galvez walked out free men and told us just a short while ago that they are ready to move on with their lives. We apologize for the poor lighting condition which prevailed outside the Supreme Court as dusk set in.
Dennis Hyde, Acquitted
"I have no comment man. I got back my freedom. I'm innocent."
Keith Swift
This must be bittersweet for you, you were acquitted but your brothers were convicted.
Dennis Hyde,
"Well I don't know what to say about that but the jury found them guilty and I know they are innocent too but I can't really make any comment on that."
Keith Swift,
How about you Delvin?
Delvin Galvez, Acquitted
"All I could say is I feel so good, thank the father for everything."
Keith Swift,
Could you have done anything different that night?
Delvin Galvez,
"I don't think so."
Keith Swift,
How will you move on?
Delvin Galvez,
"I will move on with my life."
Clifford and Russell Hyde are back in custody at the Hattieville Prison and will remain there until sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Cheryl Lynn Branker-Taitt. In the trial she argued that Allison Castillo was killed because of an argument in the parking lot over parking space. All four accused gave statements from the dock refuting that. Castillo's death was a double tragedy as his aunt who he was visiting suffered a fatal heart attack when she got the news of his murder.
