The post of director of the Financial Intelligence Unit has been vacant ever since November when Keith Arnold left the building under a cloud of controversy and alleged conflict of interest. But that's in the past, and now one of Belize's most qualified tax experts, Geraldine Davis will take over. The Harvard trained former Commissioner of Income Tax and career public servant is currently overseeing the implementation of the General Sales Tax. When that is implemented on July first, she will move over to the FIU. The Financial Intelligence Unit investigates cases of international financial fraud, particularly money laundering activity. It is a key agency in the eyes of international terrorist tracking governments such as the United States.
