Workers at the flashpoint for labor unrest on new road called The Ready Call Center scored a major victory yesterday when they joined the Belize Communication Worker's Union. A poll was conducted and 124 workers voted decisively to join a union. The balloting showed 81.5% percent in favor and 18.4% against.
The Tripartite Body certified the Communication Worker's Union as the exclusive bargaining agent for Ready Call workers. There are 350 employees at Ready Call Center. The owners now won't have a choice but to negotiate with the union which gained fame for its representation of 400 BTL workers during last year's unrest.
We note the development is also a victory for former workers who continued to lobby for a union at Ready Call.
