The Public Utilities Commission has issued a public position on BEL’s decision to stop new service installations, line extensions and temporary connections. BEL is telling its customers its because the PUC has capped their capital spending, so don’t blame the power company, blame the regulator.

Well, this evening the PUC issued a public statement saying that, “the PUC re-iterates that it has not placed a limit on spending or expenditure (capital or otherwise) for BEL for 2008 and 2009.” It continues to say that, “BEL is expected to continue to satisfy all reasonable requests for electricity services....”

So, bottom line is that BEL has been ordered by the PUC to resume with all the installations that it suspended two weeks ago. When we reached BEL for comment this evening, a company rep said they were reviewing the clarification of decision, as it is called.
