Police are tonight searching for two young men who pulled off a broad daylight armed robbery in downtown Belize City. It occurred at 3:15 at Price Premier Products on Regent Street. That is when two neatly dressed men entered the store – they asked the clerk Robert Simpliss what is the price of the pineapple juice. And while they posed as shoppers, their intention was to rob. Simpliss told us he was ambushed.

Robert Simpliss, Clerk
“I got up and asked them what they want and they said they wanted to buy something here. They showed me the pineapple juice, I bent down to get the price and as I bent down I was picked up by a choke grab and he strangled me. He held my nostril and my mouth and I almost came out of it. So he asked me where the money is and I didn’t have no choice but to show him the cash pan and that’s where he went and he took out the money. He took the lady to the back and I was still down there under his grip. It isn’t a nice experience.”

Keith Swift,
So when did they leave?

Robert Simpliss,
“They left after they get what they came for. I don’t know if they got all they came for but they left eventually. Like I said I was strangled and it was not a nice experience. I wouldn’t want nobody to experience something like this.”

Simpliss was in the store with another clerk. She was held at gunpoint while the Simpliss was held in a choke hold. The two were forced to the back of the store while the men rummaged through the cash drawer. We were unable to ascertain how much money they ran with it. Price Premier is the distributor for a wide variety of products – including Del Monte, Duracell, and Dak. This is the second time they’ve been robbed this year. The first was in May.
