In June Caribbean Tobacco Company Limited launched its beat the hard times sweepstakes. Entering the contest was as easy as buying a pack of cigarettes and keeping the number printed inside the pack. More than 1.5 million packs of cigarettes that were sold were eligible but today that number was drastically reduced via computer to only 400 entries. And this evening at Benquip, only three numbers were chosen as winners. We were there for the drawing and spoke to CTC’s General Manager Charles Woods.
Charles Woods, General Manager- CTC
“The promotion started in July and since then every pack of cigarettes produced has a unique number, like a serial number. Those numbers go into a computer and that computer randomly selects 400 eligible winning numbers. We have 400 numbers with us today and today we will select in this case three of them, one representing each prize.
If their number is drawn today they only need to take their empty cigarette packs with the number on it to CTC or Madisco or exclusive distributors to claim their prize.
Every year we try to come out with a theme that compliments the environment, the atmosphere we are experiencing and this year because of the hard economic times everybody is feeling we felt it compliments it and consumers can resonate with it.”
Keith Swift,
“But in hard times would people buy cigarettes?”
Charles Woods,
“If you are a cigarette smoker you will find a way to buy your cigarettes and if you are not a cigarette smoker you will you will not spend money on cigarettes. If you have made the choice to smoke, we will encourage you to smoke our brands rather than the contraband and at the same time maybe have an opportunity to winning.”
The winning numbers are: L0088520 for the twenty pounds of rice per month for a year. L05755371 for 12 monthly supplies of Dos Pinos milk and A0224588 for a Honda scooter from Benquip. You have 30 days to claim your prize. Four other prizes remain – including the grand prize of $12,000 which will be drawn on December 15th.
