And in other slightly less contentious but equally important utility news; BWSL will challenge the PUC’s decision to only allow it a 10% increase in rates. You’ll recall that BWSL had asked for 25% but the last month PUC shot that down and only permitted the 10%. But that was only an interim decision.
Well now, the BWSL has made a formal objection which means that the PUC must appoint an Independent Expert to review the decision. That appointment must be made by December 18th and will submit his report a month later on January 18, 2010.
BWSL says that the problem with the PUC’s decision is that it ignores the proposal to lower monthly bills for customers who use less than 750 gallons of water a month. According to BWSL with their plan – those consumers’ bills would go down by 20%. BWSL also complains that the PUC decision does not allow it to give investors a fair rate of return.
