You can't call it a Christmas gift, but it could be a gift for the New Year. BEL has proposed to reduce the average electricity rate in January of 2014. The company made the submission a week ago, and the BEL make it public today inviting public comments.

So how much is the proposed new rate? Well it's presently at 48.6 cents per kilowatt hour; BEL proposes to take it down to 44.6 cents. That's an 8.2% decrease, half of what it shot up by a year ago.

If you don't like the proposals, or want a deeper cut, you can write to the PUC by Friday December 27th. If not, the new rate goes into effect on January first, 2014.
