And there are more reports of cops behaving badly tonight. Customs is investigating a report that a mobile, from one of the elite police units was seen in the Corozal Free Zone this afternoon stocking up on contraband beer. Now, that’s not such a good idea right now, because customs is on high alert in the Free Zone and has an active checkpoint outside. But, our information is that the police van eluded interception by slipping through the container section – where there is no customs checkpoint.
Customs could not be reached for comment, and the acting Commissioner of police Miguel Segura told us that he has received no report from customs or his own police to that effect. He said if customs has information it should go ahead and act as it did recently with a group of police officers who were caught smuggling in the Arenal area.
Those we reached in that elite police unit, said the report is false.
But, we won’t leave it at that, we’ll keep following the credible and very serious allegation.
