10 years ago, 4G LTE and fiber optic internet to your home, was something that Belizeans only knew about from American television commercials.
But in the past few years, there has been a surge in technological improvements in Belize. The 2 telecoms companies have been in a race to provide these premium services at affordable prices, and it's now become so common-place for homes to at least have data-capable smart phones, and high speed internet access.
To celebrate those advances, BTL, now branded as Digi, today started hosting its 2-day Tech Expo. They've invited other companies in Belize that have been employing the latest technologies in their day-to-day operations. Digi wants to show Belizeans that as their theme says, there are "Possibilities Everywhere".
We stopped this morning, and the Deputy Chief of Sales Marketing for Digi told us what makes the company's second expo an event you need to attend:
Marconi Leal - Deputy Chief, Sales &Marketing, BTL

"It's the second Digi Tech Expo. We had one 2 years ago, and it's basically to show how technology is shaping an intelligent future. And so, what we did is partner with local and international exhibitors to show what they're doing in technology and this year, the theme is 'Possibilities Everywhere'. And it's because it's not only about Digi, and we're doing to drive technology in Belize, and delivering for Belize, but we have all our exhibitors here. We have Fultec, who's doing a lot in technology. We have ASR showing how they're powering the sugar industry with technology. We have Atlantic Bank, our special sponsor, who's showing what they're doing with their wireless card, and so much things they're doing with technology. So, it's possibilities everywhere. We have Huawei who's talking about safe cities. We have Vui, which is one of our partners, who's talking about artificial intelligence. And so, just the host of things that technology is doing, and how we're powering technology in Belize, of course on our Digi network, which is our DigiCell network, our DigiNet fiber network, and all the different things we're doing at Digi."

"Often times, I hear the cynics suggest that Belize has been lagging behind in technology for years. Do you think that we're catching up to the rest of the world?"
Marconi Leal
"Definitely, gone are the days where we could say Digi is - we're not at that level in terms of how we compare to the region to the world. But if you look at Digi and what we're offering right now in terms of our mobile network. We could boast one of the best networks in Central America and the Caribbean."
The event continues tomorrow at the Belize City Civic Center.
