Earlier in the segment we told you about a rare wild animal at Belize Zoo - but out next story is about a very common, and very domesticated animal, the much sought after turkey.
Even with COVID discussed in every other breath no one plans on missing out on that special holiday meal.
And this morning Cherisse Halsall went on a turkey shoot at Quality Poultry.
In a Covid year, cash resources may be scarce but people are still finding money for that Christmas bird, here at Quality Poultry at North Front Street, most people are buying turkeys that are between 8 and 12 pounds priced at between $4.00 and $4.25 a pound.
And this morning when we spoke to Belize City branch manager Andre Salgado he told us that especially in times of lockdown the turkey is that essential element to bring the family together.

"Of course we would like to recommend that people stay at home, that is what the experts are suggesting and what better way to do it than to stay at home with a quality turkey. This weekend we are doing an unprecedented sale, and this is the first time that memory serves me that we will be having a sale on Turkeys and I've been here for quite a while now. So we are gonna have a 25 cents discount off per pound of Turkey."
"We're doing it because we understand the economic situation of Belize, we understand what's happening now. A lot of people are jobless, a lot of people's salaries were affected because they have to work different hours and shift systems and so we understand and we get that, so we are going to give back on the turkeys for this weekend."
And Quality isn't just prioritizing Anglo-Saxon traditions. They have deals on offer for every type of Belizean celebration.

"Another thing we decided to do in the Christmas season is we are gonna give 25% off Quality Poultry's season products, so that started on Monday so our season legs, season breasts, season wings and special season chicken which is a whole chicken already cut up in quarters. Why we decided to add that on the list was because unlike me and you and the Belize City people, our normal traditional Christmas meals is turkey and ham. However our Belizeans in the north and all the way down south their normal tradition Christmas lunch is they would have relleno or they would do barbeque. I know in Orange Walk a lot of people do barbeque for Christmas day, so we tried to see what direction we could have taken it to have everyone happy and to make everyone happy this Christmas season."
And what if you're down to buy the bird but wary of the Christmas time crowds - Quality Poultry says they are only allowing in 15 at a time and sanitising stringently and with all those precautions here at Quality, it seems that the COVID grinch has lost and that when Christmas dawns the one thing that's still a certainty is the good old roast beast.
