Last night, PM John Briceno announced in his New Year's message that the scheduled increase in social security contributions for 2021 had been deferred. He didn't really say why but most working Belizeans were only concerned with the money that they will be saving.

Today the Social Security Board issued a release informing the public that the increase from 9% to 10% and the Wage Ceiling increase of $480 to $520 has been postponed and the decision made by Cabinet was due to the current state of the economy as well as the potential negative effect on employment in the near future.
