Back in January we showed you that Mountain Pine Ridge was getting a little TLC, and that Rio On Pools and Rio Frio Cave would be upgraded to accommodate tourists - at a cost.

Well, those upgrades have been completed under the Sustainable Tourism Program - 2 - a project which started under the UDP and finished under the PUP.

The facilities were handed over on Friday, March 26th, by Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler to the Minister of Sustainable Development, Orlando Habet. The Forestry Department will now be responsible to maintain the facilities.

At the Rio On Pools, visitors will notice a pavilion, a panoramic viewing area, two public restrooms and changing rooms. At the Rio Frio Cave, there are now three picnic palapas, restrooms, and new access trails.

Both facilities will now have eco friendly sewage systems and the water supply will be powered by solar energy.

The total cost of the upgrades was over half a million dollars and was financed by the IDB.
