Last night, we told you about the fatal stabbing of 24-year-old Venecia Staine, which happened at her family's home in Gracie Rock Village on Easter Sunday. The woman accused of inflicting the fatal injury is her sister-in-law, 25-year-old Leanne Davis, and tonight, Davis is at the prison.
As we reported, Staine went to visit her parents at their home for the Easter Holidays. Family members tell us that Staine and Davis had a mutual dislike for each other, and so, Staine allegedly stayed away from her parents' home to avoid conflict. Davis is the girlfriend of Venecia Staine's brother, and we are told that Staine's parents allowed them to live at their Gracie Rock farm at her brother's request.
It is still unclear how the two ended up in a fight, but at this time, police believe that the altercation escalated when Davis pulled a knife and fatally wounded Staine. They have since charged Davis with the crime of murder, but her mother, Alice, thinks that the police are mistaken about how the incident unfolded
This morning, we met Alice Davis at the Magistrate Court, and she gave her daughter's side of what happened 4 days ago:
Alice Davis - Mother of the Accused
"The sisters-in-law, they're girls that didn't like my daughter from the outset. And all she did was love their brother and give him kids. Now, she's taken away from those beautiful kids, 3 months, I think one of them has, and the other has 6 years."
Reporter
"You don't believe that she committed murder."

Alice Davis
"I don't believe my daughter would do that. She was pushed. What I understand from her is she fighting with the girl, but the other one came with the knife. When she saw the knife, she flipped the girl to her. She is a big girl, and so she shoved the girl to her, you understand. And that is when she inflicted the wound on her own sister."
"They gave me the clothing that she had on. Only her bra had blood on it. The shirt that she had on didn't have any blood, right here at the tail. If I stab someone and she's on top of me. Most naturally, all of my clothes at the front would have been bloody."
Reporter
"So, your daughter's account is that she shoved the young lady off, and in that motion is when she got hurt."
Alice Davis
"Yes."
Alice Davis is hoping that the members of the public will come to her aid in trying to get proper legal representation for her daughter.
Leanne Davis was arraigned today on a single count of murder before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, and due to the nature of the offense, no plea was taken, and she couldn't be granted bail. Chief Magistrate Frazer has remanded her to the Belize Central Prison, and she will be brought back to court on May 21st, 2021.
