There was a fatal traffic accident this afternoon in the Corozal village of San Joaquin. The victim is 39-year-old mother of 3, Candy Martinez.
Our colleagues from CTV 3 New in the north were on the scene shortly after the deadly collision. We understand that the accident happened at around 1:30 at mile 79 and a half on the Philip Goldson Highway.
Martinez, who is from San Joaquin, was driving her Ford Escape SUV, in which she had just left her home. She was heading in the direction of Corozal Town, and information reaching 7News is that the left side of her vehicle somehow clipped the rear wheel of a truck with a trailer attached. From there the SUV spun out of control.
First responders found Martinez's body flung outside of the vehicle and she died on the scene.
Martinez leaves behind 3 children.
This part of the road is a curve, and it has seen multiple accidents in the past.
