The price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas went up 2 weeks ago, and tonight the Belize Bureau of Standard is announcing that it will go up again.

The current wholesale price of cooking gas is 4 dollars and 37 cents per gallon, but in a few more hours, it will change to 4 dollars and 75 cents.

The current retail price in all urban areas is 136 dollars for a hundred-pound tank, but it will increase to 144 dollars. As usual, cooking gas is a little more expensive in rural areas, and the new price will be 147 dollars for a hundred-pound tank. Currently, it is 138 dollars.

Jose Trejo, the Controller of Supplies, says that this increase is due to a combination of supply issues. US stocks, where Belize purchases its supply, continue to dwindle in the face of strong external demand.

The price change takes effect at midnight.
