And from public buses to cruise ships, Port Coral wins the race between the three proposed ports. Today the Minister responsible for port says Stake Bank is a given - it WILL happen. Meanwhile the other two - Waterloo and Port of Magical Belize - will have to battle it out for second place. But what about the controversial causeway? Well, that's another ministry's problem. Here's how Minister Ferguson put it today.

Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Public Transportation

"I am not the minister of the blue economy, I'm the minister responsible for ports and we are establishing a new port policy should maybe be out by next year January and we are saying we are going through consultations right now ro come up with the best possible policy and I know right now we were talking about the northern ports, the central ports and the southern ports. So we consider Belize upwards northern ports and from Dangriga central port and in PG southern port and there is 3 applications in for ports in the northern area which is Port Coral, Waterloo and also the one from Mr. Gegg. All of those are on the table and contemplation and are at cabinet after what we received from our different subordinates we will decide and determine which one we think will be the best approach. I know Port Coral is already building, that is already a reality. The rest are still in their initial stage."

"So more than likely Port Coral will be allowed to operate and then the other two would just have to vye for a second position?"

Hon. Rodwell Ferguson
"Exactly, because I believe it's in the making. I know the contention is the causeway from there to the mainland. Again, that is out of my purview, that is not my ministry. I know they have to go to the different environmental people to make sure everything was done the proper way."
