And, in other news, the KHMH Workers Union elections start tomorrow and there is some intense last minute jostling between candidates. One of them, Romilio Casteneda is raising a big stink about the Provident Fund - which is basically a retirement fund that workers and management contribute to.
But, the trustees of this provident fund have come under scrutiny for accepting a monthly stipend - when that - allegedly - was not set out in the original rules.
Casteneda told us why he feels it is wrong - and why an auditor agrees:
Romildo Casteneda, Vying for president
"He classified these expenses as wages and stipend and when you look at the actual provident fund deeds and rules, there is no provision for that."
Jules Vasquez
"The board of governors approves that allowances be paid to the members of the planning group. These allowances were not solicited by members of the group. So, there is that and there is also the fact that the supervisor of insurance also signed off on these. So it's not illegitimate, it's not somebody dipping their hands in the fund. This has all the requisite approvals."
Romildo Casteneda, Vying for president
"If there was any other amendment or any other extraordinary agreement made, that was not made clear. It was not given, it was not communicated to the beneficiaries of the provident fund. Of course they can claim, and its clear in the trust deeds and rules that the board of governors of the KHMH has the authority to do so, but was it communicated, was there proper consent and consultation? and at the end of the day this is my retirement package, my benefits. Its like who is watching the watchman?"
Casteneda has been served with a letter urging him to retract his statements.
