The Mayas in Belize have long lived off of the land and REDD+ has donated hundreds of different species of plants to the Northern Maya Association of Belize. It's an ongoing countrywide reforestation initiative. The handing over ceremony took place in Orange Walk on Saturday and the association spoke about the importance of protecting and preserving nature.

More plants will be distributed to the NMAB members in Patchakan, Xaibe, Paraiso, San Victor, and other areas. The REDD+ team has also donated plants to the buffer communities in the Columbia River Forest Reserve in Toledo and to the National Garifuna Council. The overall goal is to plant at least 2,500 plants countrywide.
