The press also took the opportunity to ask ASR's Mac McLachlan about the Prime Minister's suggestion that maybe, the mill could continue to conduct business with the membership of the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association.

The millers are currently at an impasse with the BSCFA over their commercial agreement, which will expire on January 19, 2022. And if they can't come to an agreement before that expiration date, the millers say that they can't accept cane deliveries from BSCFA farmers after that date.

But, what if they can? That's what the PM suggested when the press asked him about it earlier this week, and we asked "Mac - Maclach" if it could be implemented as a temporary resolution:

Malcolm "Mac" McLachlan
"We did receive a letter about cabinet's encouragement for the industry to continue to have a crop to continue discussing issues. It's never been our intention to disadvantage any cane farmer or anything like that. We are anticipating the conversation with the prime minister. The issue is there are some legal issues surrounding this. This is a private company, it's a commercial business and the way it works is regulated around legal agreements. So we are discussing some of these issues with our legal advisors. I would just say that our intention is in no way to disadvantage any came farmer. That said, we need to ensure that things are done properly and that things are done in the right way. Looking forward to talking to the prime minister further about these issues as I say discussing with our legal team."
