We also asked Mayor Bernard Wagner about the Electric Buses Pilot Project. Back in May, he suggested that the first city buses under this project would be in operation by July.
Well, July is sliding away, and so, we asked the Mayor: where are the buses? Here's his answer:
Bernard Wagner - Belize City Mayor
"It's on schedule, based on our work plan. We are at the procurement stage of the buses. You'll see those procurement bids shortly go will result from UNDP. They are the implemented partner. And so, we had to decide on the bus, the type of bus. We had to decide on the route, and so we are right on schedule based on our implementation plan. It's an EU, UNDP, City Council, Ministry of Energy, Transport [project], all of these stakeholders together. But, based on our plan, we are right on schedule. I am telling you that I can't give you the timeline of when the buses will be in the city. But we are at the procurement stage now, and sometimes with customizing these electric buses to fit your terrain, to fit your [needs]. It may run a little time, but we are on schedule. We don't see - I don't want to venture and give you timelines, but certainly, we are on schedule."
