We've reported many times on marijuana or cocaine busts in the Ramonal area of Patchakan village - which is near an illegal border crossing. But, yesterday afternoon, police came upon something completely different - that's the drug known as crystal meth, short for crystal methamphetamines. Around 1:00 pm, police were patrolling when they saw a man standing in the bush with two bags. When he saw the cops, he dashed off - but they ran him down about 100 feet away.
When police looked in the bags, they saw four aluminum cylinders containing two clear plastic bags each with what appeared to be crystal meth. The suspect was identified as a 35 year old Mexican, Juan Pablo Cabrera Laguna, a construction worker in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Today in court, he pleaded guilty to the offense of Possession of Control Drugs with the Intent to Supply. He was remanded and will be sentenced next Friday, August 5th.
It is unclear if he was carrying the drugs north, but that is usually the case because it is a high value illicit substance in the US.
