The Social Security Board has been much in the news and the public discourse recently, and, today, the institution tried to change the dynamic of the discussion by re-connecting with its clients: both workers and employers - at an event called SSB Connect 2022.

It was a public forum to hear from the public and to tell them about an institution that is transitioning to what they call a customer centric approach. Much of that is based on a web platform called "My Social Security Self Service Portal" which offers contributors a wide range of services. The Chief Information Officer explained:

Ward McGregor, CIO, SSB
"Again, I said we will have customer focus, so again, with the portal you'll have access to all your information, you'll be able to update that information. The customer will be able to request your card, either a new one, an updated one, change the picture or whatever you want to do. You'll be able to apply for all your Social Security benefits. You'll be able to view the status of that benefit right, so you'll be able to go online and see "okay I made that claim two days ago, where is it?" and you'll be able to see what the status is. No longer calling SSB and trying to find somebody, 0-800-CALL-SSB look out for it, it's coming 0-800-CALL-SSB which means that you don't have to hunt anymore for which brand I need to call no. I call 0-800-CALL-SSB you'll get routed to the right people depending upon what you need."
