Last night we told you about an accident near the showgrounds in Belmopan and that the driver was unresponsive at the scene. Well, he died on the spot and this morning we learned that he is 38-year-old American national Steven Savarda, a man who seemed to be passing through Belize on an extended visit.
We know this because his Audi 4-door SUV - which carried California license plates - had been insured with ICB for only the two-week period between the 17th to the 31st August. The vehicle entered the country one week before the accident and was to exit on the 16th day of September 2022.
As we told you, before 5:00 PM yesterday Savarda was east bound on the Hummingbird Highway, headed to the Phillip Goldson Highway when he lost control of his SUV and crashed into a cement culvert off the side of the road at full speed. That put the accident squarely in front of Belmopan's Bravo motors dealership and the employees who were the first responder are tonight said to be, quote: "very shaken up by the incident."
