And in other news, a bus company is fighting back after the Department of Transport is refusing to renew their permits after 15 years in the industry. On January 16th, Ritchie's Bus Service received a letter from the Department of Transport stating that after a board meeting that was held on the 12th, they decided to reject his permit renewal because he failed to procure buses by December, as they had promised. The letter also states that the bus company has had a lot of inconsistencies in their runs, largely due to mechanical failures. The department notes that they have been engaging Ritchie's, giving recommendations on how they can improve their service, and since they have not done so, the department has chosen not to approve the permit.
But Ritchie's attorney says that the letter isn't exactly truthful. He explained that no board meeting was actually held, and that there is nothing in the law that should prevent Ritchie's from receiving their permit approval just because they have not brought in a new bus yet - especially since they have already purchased one.
Here's what he told us today:
They are now demanding that the department approves Ritchie's permit renewal request, and if not, they will take legal action.
