For those of an age of consent September is the season for revelry and rum, but in the world of fermented liquors there is rum and then there is RUM. And so while many Belizeans may opt for "badman" or Gold Rum, for those who really want to make the season memorable, Travellers is marketing a high end commemorative rum which they launched last night at the Heritage Museum and 7 news was there. Jomarie Lanza reports
Travelers Liquors is celebrating 70 years of operations in Belize and to mark its platinum anniversary last night they released two limited edition commemorative rums to pay homage to the company's patriarchs: Don Jaime Omario Perdomo and Romel Tiburcio Perdomo: the father and son duo who paved the way for the Travellers in the 1950's.
The Don Omario special reserve was made in honor of Don Omario Perdomo, and The Wolf Edition was made in memory of Romel Perdomo.
Anaceli Perdomo, Director

"Romel and his brother Mayito started working with their father Don Omario from a young age engaging in various tasks within the company including washing bottles, labeling, packing and making deliveries during summer and the holidays. This early exposure contributed to his strong work ethics and commitment to the family business. Romel's passion dedication and determination were the driving forces behind his successful career his journey in the rum industry began at the age of 19 he worked closely with his father for 27 years contributing to the growth of travelers liquors."
"One of his visionary initiatives was initiating the aging process for rum at travelers and enhancing the aging techniques had a transformative impact on the company this led the business beyond just rum production and resulted in improved business outcomes establishing a more resilient and competitive position in the industry."
"Today we wish to pay tribute to this remarkable man by unveiling a new rum in his honor and by inducting him into the Travellers heritage museum."
And while - for adults - September is the season of revelry and rum drinking - this is no regular rum - it is super refined, hundred proof and aged in bourbon and sherry casks for 13 years. And with all that, the price tag is not for the faint of heart: each specially packaged bottle sells for $225 dollars.
Amanda Perdomo, Director

"This is the oldest rum we've ever released and now we are releasing Don Omario XO. It is a delightful rum almost perfect, it offers a complex delightful flavor that excites your senses. It is ruby red in color. The notes on the nose are rich with aromas of cherries, fruit cake, vanilla and toasted coconut. On the pallet there is a harmony of flavors with smooth notes of caramel vanilla, butterscotch and oak that is so well balanced it provides an elegant sweetness of tropical fruit also. The finish is long and satisfying with a gentle warmth that carries the essence of our signature travelers rum and also the elegance of wine. It is a perfect blend for sipping on the rocks to be enjoyed slowly savoring the flavors after a meal with a cigar or a dessert."
Both rums are limited editions.
