The International Monetary Fund is currently in Belize and on Tuesday, the Cabinet was updated on how their staff visit was going. Minister Coye highlighted the transformation of the economy and especially the emergence of the BPO sector which is currently employing over 8,000 persons.
And today, the CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development told us that the IMF continues to be impressed with Belize's performance.
Osmond Martinez, CEO, Ministry of Economic Development
"IMF comes to Belize twice per year and this is one of the times that has been designated historically for IMF to be in country and overall they are impressed with Belize's macro economic performance, they're still shocked that the first quarter of this year, Belize's GDP growth was 11.4% and their forecast was to be anywhere between 1 and 2% so they were very impressed with that but I know the financial secretary and the governor of the Central Bank and Minister Coye would definitely have more details on the overall summary of the mission but overall the outcome looks extremely well."
