City Council Will Have Convention But Likely Not For Mayor

The PUP has published its convention dates for municipal slates and it includes Belize City. But, reports to 7News say the convention is for councillor posts only - and Mayor Bernard Wagner is expected to be endorsed. Reports say this was the decision of the party's National Campaign Committee earlier this week - and it is expected to be affirmed by the party's National Executive next week.

Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner has maintained for months that he will not seek re-election if he has to face a contested convention. Wagner wishes to be endorsed to offer himself for a third term leading the PUP city slate - which the party seems to be in concurrence with.
