But, it's not that simple. UDP Deputy Leader Hugo Patt - who is from one of the other associations and is also a large cane farmer in the Corozal District - told us that the mood in the industry right now is cautious and concerned:

"It is my impression as well and I'm speaking here from Patchakan. I haven't seen any much movement happening on behalf of the farmers. So I think everybody right now is kind of wary as to what will happen in the coming hours."

"The last thing you want to do is to burn down your cane field and then next thing you know we don't have a crop. Going forward let us suppose that the worst happens and we have some sort of demonstration."

"You don't want to see farmers fighting between farmers. You don't want to see any confrontation happening and violence erupts and so people are very aware of that situation."
