If meetings, openings and groundbreakings were overnight stays, the planned resort at Caye Chapel would top the arrivals lists. But right now the project is still continuing its extended gestation - and another target was met yesterday with what's being called a quote, "high-profile investor meeting… convened between Four Seasons Officials, esteemed investors and the Prime Minister of Belize...to discuss the construction of a luxurious Four Seasons Resort in Caye Chapel valued at almost 500 million USD."
Now, this is the same project that had its groundbreaking in September of last year and at that time, they said it was a 200 million US dollar project. But now, suddenly and inexplicably, it's more than two times that! A release from the project publicist says, quote, "Both Prime Minister Briceno and Tourism Minister Hon. Anthony Mahler expressed their enthusiasm for the proposed project...The Prime Minister emphasized the government's commitment to facilitating the investment…and pledged full support for the development of the Four Seasons Resort in Caye Chapel." End quote.
We should note that the project has been hovering on the horizon for the past 9 years and still. Not reached the shore. The plan now is for the first phase to be completed in 2025.
