After a visit 6 days ago, Prime Minister John Briceno was back in Mexico on Saturday - this time begging CFE for more power for Belize.
And, the PM had a major sponsor in his meetings with CFE - Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
He today told the press that AMLO paved the way for a productive meeting:
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"He invited different ministries and the head of CFE to be able to meet with us. We had a chance to meet with the president and the head of CFE, they have agreed that they will work with us to continue to provide energy. as you know, well, probably most people don't know but we have a maximum of 55mw of electricity that we can buy. Now what the president offered us is to be able to increase it by 20 more so that we will be able to buy approximately 75mw and we'll be working with CFE to run a second line into Belize."
It's important to note that CFE is having its own power problems this month, with two hour power outages affecting various parts of the country from May 7th to May 10th due to an intense heat wave.
