And while the soldiers are manning the borders, they're also expecting a pay cut after an error revealed that they had been overpaid for the past 5 years. However, according to the Minister, it's not as simple as moving them up or down the pay scale. Rather, it's a thorough process that involves multiple ministries.
Florencio Marin, Minister of National Defense & Border Security

"This is not a one time fix. We have to thoroughly go through a full review of the soldiers' salary, we need to do this with the Minister of the Public Service, we need to do this with the Ministry of Finance and our ministry so it is not a one time fix, we do not just move them up a scale or bring them down a scale and it will be resolved, we have to go through the whole thing throughly and we do have to do it very quick. We're also including the new allowances as well that will be put in for the benefit of our soldiers so it's not a one time fix so I know you all are bringing it up every time but it is not something that we can do at the speed that everyone will like, but it is an emergency for the Ministry."
