And while the PM is hoping Belizean exports will be able to cross over to Mexico, there are also plans for Mexico's ambitious Tren Maya to come into our country. But in the meantime, Cabinet has lifted certain restrictions, making it easier for Mexicans to travel into Belize.
John Briceno, Prime Minister

"We announced that our Cabinet has agreed to lift or to provide the cards for the Mexicans free of charge so that they could come into Belize easily, remove the border tax, and then also be able to use your insurance into Belize. We're doing this so that we can be able to make it easier for Mexicans to visit Belize and lastly we spoke about Tren Maya. We spoke with the General Aguila who is in charge of the project along with ICA, a private sector company that is building, they have different sections, they are building different companies along with the army they are building it, and about the possibility of moving from Chetumal, the Tren Maya onto our border and to start there and to move into the rest of the country. So all of these discussions, this is what we've agreed, just roughly. And we've started to put that in pen and paper hopefully sometimes next month we'll be able to sign this agreement."
As for the 95 dollar fee per head that Belizeans must pay when arriving by boat in Chetumal - the Prime Minister says he will try to get that waived in future conversations with the Governor of Quintana Roo.
