And the Minister of National Defense and Border Security was also present at the ceremony. While the BDF and the police often collaborate on security issues, when it comes to the Sarstoon, the soldiers handle that on their own. So we asked the Minister about the importance of establishing a Sarstoon protocol, particularly after the last incident involving the media.

Florencio Marin, Minister of National Defense & Border Security

"It is extremely important, we do share a border, that will not change so it is essential that we both are able to do our activities together and it would be even better if we can coordinate how we try to maintain security in the Sarstoon."

Courtney Menzies:
"Are you concerned after they said they would increase their patrols to stop the "incursions" from the BDF?"

Florencio Marin, Minister of National Defense & Border Security
"Them increasing patrols, how they do operations, that's not any of our issues. We will never accede sovereignty, the Belize Defense Force, the Ministry, this government has never compromised on the sovereignty of Belize so we'll do our work."
