Chicken is the popular meat in Belize, and the cheapest source of protein. In fact, Belizeans consume more chicken per person than almost any other country in the western hemisphere. On average each Belizean eats about 110 pounds of chicken per year.
And if you're one of the many who love chicken, then you're surely familiar with Quality Poultry Products. The company sells about 20 million pounds of chicken annually! They are celebrating 50 years in 2025, and to do so they are giving back to their customers at their 13 retail stores countrywide. Jomarie Lanza reports.
In celebration of its Golden anniversary 50 years, Quality Poultry Products is reaching out to its customers to celebrate with them, and with that they will be having another motorcade this weekend, this time it will be in Belize City. Their Manager Andre Selgado told us today that the event is a way for them to demonstrate their commitment product delivery and availability:

"So this year quality celebrates our legacy year which is 50 years in existence as quality poultry products. We were established in 1975 and we have been in operation, continuous nonstop being the number one poetry provider in Belize so we wanted to do something different, every company that does reach 50 years they normally just have one event at a centralised location so what we are trying to do is we are trying to celebrate with the entire country which makes everyone an active participant of what we are doing so what we decided to do is every district, the main city or town in that district will be having a motorcade in celebration of Quality so we are celebrating it with you as our customers as our supporters and we are giving back to you right. So this Saturday in Belize city is going to be the motorcade will start at 11:00am and will go through the principal streets of BELIZE CITY, we are kind of taking the same route as the fire engine parade."
"So quality poultry the motorcade it highlights a little bit of the process of how we get stuff to your plate, so for instance lot of people don't know that we have two boats so we have quality poultry products and "dis da fi wi chikin" that actually goes out everyday to the islands to ensure that your chicken is there for when you want it to cook or when you are ready to eat that is part of our distribution chain we have three semi refrigerated trucks, we have over 75 refrigerated delivery trucks and we have buses we use to transport our employees from home and back to work so there is so much that comes to quality poultry it's not just that chicken that you sit and eat on that table. So we are trying to let everyone know, educate you guys on what it takes to get that chicken that you eat from us to you."
And while they won't be giving away any free chicken during the parade, Selgado encourages customers to visit the stores and take advantage of the deals they are offering at their branch fair

"Everybody wants free chicken, and believe me as much as I would love to throw free chicken to you guys we also have to think about how long you will stand there with the chicken and so forth."
"Every branch will have a fair of their own so the way it works is next weekend, Belize city and San Pedro will be having their fair and so what that does is again we are trying to spread the discount throughout the entire country. So when the fair day for your district comes then like for instance next weekend we are going to be 50 cents off per pound per leg and bag and as well as $12 a crate for neck and back right so it just depends what area you are doing and what is your fair day so that is how we are giving back. We also have for every $25 worth a purchase you get a chance to spin a wheel and you win prizes as well for our corporate customers. We will have a little thank you for them as well so that is how we are giving back."
