In other political news, we also asked Senior Minister Francis Fonseca what he thinks of the security contracts awarded by the Belize Airports Authority. As our reporting has demonstrated, the award of the contracts was unlawful, and the text of at least one of them left a lot to be desired. Those contracts have now been cancelled by government - but there's been no disclosure of how many hundreds of thousands of dollars were disbursed and what value was received for it.

It's a good governance issue, but one that Fonseca didn't want any part of when we spoke to him yesterday:

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Culture

"Yeah, again, you know, it's difficult to talk about something that you really don't know much about. I'm only seeing what is being reported in the media. You know, obviously, you can't. They were cancelled for a reason. So obviously, that is good that they were cancelled. Because I, you know, obviously the people involved felt that they were not properly done and properly executed. So that's good. But really beyond that, you know, I can't comment on that."
