Half way through village council election season, things are heating up in key battleground villages.

Caye Caulker is not typically a battleground between UDP and PUP - since that island has always been blue. But the independent slate - which is considered to be blue friendly - is facing a challenge from a true blue slate. When we asked the area representative for Belize Rural South about this he told us that he is "largely playing behind the scenes" on the campaign trail:

Andre Perez, Area Representative, Belize Rural South
"Right now the present village council was never a PUP slate, it was always independent, I don't see it as being heated. I think the PUP slate right now is taking out a very positive campaign. What the change can do is lead by Ms Selina Jimenez; she is doing a great work with the entire team. They are out there on the streets campaigning, very positive so I think it is a good heat they are calling it, it is not heating up to bad but it is the positive changes where the entire village is saying you know we need some changes and they are campaigning, I am largely playing behind the scenes not to get involved but this is what the people want they want change so it is all healthy, all good."
