And while the police department will have new stations soon - they still have to rent. We asked about one of the biggest commercial spaces they do rent which is the precinct one station on King Street. It's owned by a prominent businessman in the area:
Jules Vasquez:
"But now it is rented from a prominent business person in the area. Friend to all in the political and police spheres. I think I remember you at one of the you received a donation from him of, products after a hurricane or Covid or something."
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs:
"That was the last administration. Yes. Michael Peyrefitte."
Jules Vasquez:
"No, sir. You were there. I know Francis Fonseca was there - which was rare"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs:
"Oh, the Chinese community,"
Jules Vasquez:
"On Euphrates Avenue. At Vin Hong."
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs:
"Yes, but that was in the Chinese community anyway."
Jules Vasquez:
"Anyway, are you able to say if this rental of the King Street police station is an above board, arm's length, judiciously decided rental? Or is it just bway my friend have wah building to rent? And he's been a friend to us."
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs:
"No, no, no. Absolutely not. And I suspect you're saying he's a friend to everybody deliberately because he's a friend of the last administration. Friend of, the current administration. That is the furthest thing. Jules, because if you look at the building and the cost and I, I believe, the company is saying that they're charging us way undervalue. But the location really is, at the end of the day, why we decided to go with that particular building. It's it's actually sitting in a very hot spot neighborhood, the George Street. Taylor's alley is just, seconds away from this particular precinct. And so that is the reason why it was relocated from, I believe it was on Euphrates avenue, former Boots Martinez building and relocated to this location here on King Street."
Jules Vasquez:
"Are you able to see what the monthly rental is?"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs:
"I could get that for you, but I don't know how often I don't walk around with that in my pocket. I wish I did."
