You can call it the end of an era, or the long, slow fall of a one-time icon, but the Belize Tourism Board has forced the closure of the Belize City Ramada Princess. Now, as we understand it, this is only for the hotel, not the casino or movie theater. We understand that the BTB had long standing concerns about the quality of the accommodations. Typically when such a closure is imposed by the BTB - the hotel is given a chance to clean up and re-open once they can meet quality standards.

With over a hundred rooms that is no small task - but we'll wait and see. First branded the Ramada, the hotel on what used to be the "long barracks" opened in the late 80's as a tourism flagship in Belize City.
