PUC Approves 13.5% Increase In Water Rates, UDP Says Worst Time

Regardless of how you feel about your water bill, you'd better enjoy it now because come April of 2026, it's going to go up by 13%.

The PUC has made an initial decision for the 2026 Full Tariff Review Proceedings submitted by Belize Water Services Limited.

And they have approved a 13.5% increase to the Mean Water Rate instead of the 20% rate increase requested by BWSL. They say this will result in an overall increase of approximately 5.5% on a customer's monthly bill.

Today in the House of Representatives, the UDP's Lee Mark Chang says it comes at the worst time for Belizeans.
