And while that case is now out of Musa's hands, we asked his successor, Oscar Mira, for his plans on how that will be handled. However, it doesn't seem to be a matter of urgency for him. He told us that it's all on the DPP now.
Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs & Enterprise
"I believe that, that file has been sent to the DPP, and it is her job not to do whatever it is that she she needs to do. And to give whatever advice it is that she needs to go. And then I leave it as that, that file has been sent to the DPP."
Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs & Enterprise
"It's our job now to do, to to give us the advice that she needsto to give."
Reporter, Interviewer
"Aren't you concerned that it seemed like there wasn't much in the file as it relates to the police investigation?"
Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs & Enterprise
"I haven't seen the file. And, as I said, I have just taken over, this week, and, that file is at the DPP. I will not, put my 1 cents or 2 cents into that investigation. An investigation has been done. It has been sent to the DPP, and it's her job now to give us the recommendation."
Reporter, Interviewer
"As the new minister, don't you? Do you believe that the tapes should be released?"
Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs & Enterprise
"As I said, I will not go into any of the investigation that happened, that is not for me to do. That is already been done. Investigations has happened, and whatever recommendations comes out from it that the DPP has, we are going to follow."
Reporter, Interviewer
"But as the new Minister for Home Affairs. The actions of no your police officers falls squarely on your shoulders. Whether it is the alleged involvement in the kidnaping or it is their part in their play in the investigation. We know that this has significantly deteriorated public trust, something that you are passionate about rebuilding. How do you do that when you are essentially, taking a hands off approach to this very serious issue?"
Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs & Enterprise
"No. I think that you're getting it wrong. The trust that we must work for, we will get that trust from our Belizean people because we are going to work to get that trust back. However, I cannot interfere when an investigation that has already been concluded. That is not for me to to do. It has been done. The investigation is finished."
"The file has been sent to the DPP. I know we are with her recommendation and decision. I will not interfere."
