So effective March of 2026, agents and applicants will see the increase in fees at the vital stats unit. For some it might not be much but for others who are applying for multiple documents at a time, they might feel the sting in their pockets. But luckily once you get hold of your documents there will be no need to apply for it again once it is digitized.
Anthony Sylvester, Attorney General
"So the cost, following from yesterday's, what we appreciated and again this is the purpose of the launch. What we will do is we will revert to what the cost was prior to the launch however, come the 1st of March. So we are giving the public and giving everyone because we understand and appreciate that perhaps maybe that information was not relayed sufficiently so that persons could have properly prepared themselves. And so taking that into consideration we would relax and revert to the price which is prior to the launch until 1st of March. Now why did there need to be an increase? So unlike what currently obtains so you have a birth certificate or a death certificate, a certificate, which essentially has a lifespan, and so persons have to routinely come back and make an application. No being digitized these actually remain. So long as you don't lose your phone or lose whatever device that digital certificate was forward to so with that in mine is that it reduces the need for a persons to make multiple applications and so because of that being mindful of that then there was a policy decision that said okay, let us increase the cost to procure these certificates because at the end of the day they may very well last forever."
