So, BTL is the dominant provider now - and would be even more so if they acquire Speednet. But, to hear the proponents of the acquisition tell it - the satellite based Starlink may be the more dominant provider in the future.

And fearing that is why the PUC intervened in the market and gave that internet provider a rural license. We asked about that.

Jules Vasquez
"Since the PUC has shown its interventionist power in limiting the lessons of Starlink, it has shown that everything isn't fine. You can't have, you can't have unregulated competition. It intervened. It said Starlink, rural areas only. I am amazed that it can act with such a clear and astute sense of the market in limiting competition that Starlink can provide, but it will not do so when the politically favoured BTL is about to gobble up the competition and permanently change the market landscape."

"Would you say there's inconsistency there?"

Stacey Grinage, Internal Legal Counsel, PUC
"No Jules. I, I don't agree with you again because as we said here, we are, that matter is before the PUC and we will determine it. We will issue a decision, a well-reasoned decision when the time comes and, and, as we usually do with all matters that come before us."
