The discount carrier JetBlue first flew to Belize in 2023 and it arrived with much fanfare. But now, a little over two years later, the airline is saying "no mas."
Press reports say JetBlue Airways is ending service to two cities: Asheville, North Carolina, and Belize City, Belize - as part of its transformation program.
It will end service to the Goldson International Airport from New York's JFK International Airport on May 21st, a JetBlue spokesperson confirmed. The airline operated three weekly flights - on Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays - year-round.
The JetBlue spokesperson said neither AVL nor BZE, quote, "met our performance expectations" and the airline would shift resources to, quote, "routes where we can sustainably win."
It's a big loss in airlift for Belize but this destination joins 15 other cities cut from the airline's map as part of a restructuring for profitability. The 9 or so Belizean employees of JetBlue are also now jobless.
